Who is the training for?

This group is for young people who want to grow – not only physically, but mentally too.

  • For teenagers who want greater confidence and self-assurance
  • For students who want to improve their fitness, coordination and posture
  • For young people looking for meaningful movement without competitive stress
  • For anime and manga fans who want to experience a real Japanese martial art
  • For boys and girls aged 13–17 years
  • Complete beginners are welcome

What does training bring to young people?

Training is systematic and progressive. Every student knows what they are working on and where they are heading.

  • Development of strength, stability and good posture
  • Better reactions, coordination and balance
  • Builds calm, concentration and self-control
  • Strengthens confidence in a natural way
  • Teaches cooperation, respect and consideration for others
  • Option to combine with adult training sessions (Wednesday and Friday from 19:00). Those who want to practise more intensively can train several times a week

Previous movement experience does not matter – everyone develops at their own pace.

Aikido for youth aged 13–17 in Prague 6. Monday 17:45–18:45. First lesson free.

How does training work?

Classes take place once a week and are led by an experienced instructor with a patient and individual approach. Every session is varied, safe and tailored to the age and abilities of the students.

Training combines aikido techniques, movement and partner work, as well as general physical preparation. We progressively build coordination, balance and physical resilience.
We guide students towards focus, responsibility and respect.

What you will experience in training:

  • Active warm-up and stretching
  • Basic movement and falling techniques
  • Aikido techniques adapted to age
  • Foundations of Japanese etiquette (respect, focus)

We place great emphasis on safety, wellbeing and each student's individual pace.

Training takes place in a friendly atmosphere free from rivalry. You can read more about aikido on this page.

Aikido is one of the few martial arts where being bigger or stronger does not automatically give you an advantage. This makes it an ideal discipline for teenagers – it develops technique, composure and confidence without relying on physical dominance. You will take away new skills, friendships and a positive relationship with movement that can stay with you for life.

Why a separate youth group?

The ages of 13–17 are crucial for developing confidence and responsibility. The youth group allows for more technically demanding training than children's classes – while still being an environment where everyone is roughly the same age and at a similar level.

The group is not closed. Those who want to train more can combine the youth session with adult training on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Frequently asked questions

How long is one training session?
60 minutes. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start so you have time to get changed.

Do I need any special equipment?
To begin, all you need is the desire to learn something new and comfortable sportswear (t-shirt and trousers below the knee). Training is done barefoot on tatami mats. Indoor shoes are useful for walking between the changing rooms and the gym, and a towel is handy. We later recommend a traditional aikido/judo kimono (gi) – we are happy to advise on choosing one. Suggested shops: Hayashi, Decathlon, and more at this link.

Are there competitions in aikido?
No, aikido is not a competitive martial art. It is not about rivalry but about finding harmony with your partner. Within the club it is possible to take grading examinations for Aikikai technical ranks.

Is aikido safe?
Yes. Techniques are adapted to the age and abilities of the students, with a strong emphasis on safety and controlled movement.

What happens after the first free training session?
If the training suits you, you register for the semester (3,600 CZK). No commitment in advance – the first session is genuinely non-binding. After submitting your reservation we will contact you with further information.

Grading examinations

Our club is a member of the Czech Aikido Association (Aikikai of the Czech Republic), which is directly affiliated with the central organisation in Tokyo.

Through the CAA it is possible to take kyu grading examinations (student grades) and dan examinations (master grades).

The annual CAA membership fee is not included in the course price. Membership gives access to internationally and permanently recognised Aikikai Hombu Dojo grading examinations, as well as certain discounts – for example, a 400 CZK reduction on the summer aikido school. The fee is 300 CZK per year for children under 15, and 400 CZK per year for those under 18.
